Raymond Willmann

June 29, 1927 — December 29, 2022

Raymond Elroy Willmann was born June 29, 1927 on the family farm to Paul Louis and Alva Mattfeld Willmann. He passed from life on December 29, 2022. Raymond was the youngest child of his parents, being preceded in death by his parents and brothers Paul Emil Willmann, David Willmann, and Elmer Willmann. Raymond was a lifelong member of Emanuel’s Lutheran Church in Seguin, and served as a Sunday School teacher, usher, and in various capacities, including folding bulletins later in his life in the church office. He participated in a Men’s Bible Class at Emanuel’s Lutheran for many years. The last ten years of his life he was a resident of Argent Court Assisted Living having lived on the farm where he was born his entire life prior to entering Argent Court. Raymond with his parents and brothers ran a dairy operation for many years, and later Raymond was involved in farming with his brother David.

Raymond was much interested in serving others, and particularly those who were poor and experienced difficulties such as discrimination in life. His favorite charities to which he contributed are: Lutheran Word Relief, L.I.R.S. (Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service), The ELCA World Hunger Appeal, Planned Parenthood, The N.A.A.C.P., L.U.L.A.C., A.D.L., formerly called the Anti-Defamation League working to combat antisemitism, The Southern Poverty Law Center, The Seguin Public Library, and The Christian Cupboard, the local Seguin food pantry, etc. Raymond was politically active and a supporter of and member of the Democratic Party. Gifts to any would be appropriate in his memory as he supported each of these continuously as part of his stewardship as a recipient of God’s bounty in love of his neighbors as he loved himself.

Raymond is survived by his nephew, John Paul Willmann, John Willmann’s wife Joan Marie Willmann and their children and spouses, Laura Willmann Mason and husband Robert William (Bill) Mason, and Paul Donald Willmann, and wife Leighann Sullivan Willmann, and their children Liam David Willmann and Logan Christopher Willmann, various cousins and their progeny.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Goetz Funeral Home, 713 N. Austin, Seguin, Texas. His nephew, Pastor John Willmann, will officiate the Funeral Service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lone Oak Cemetery, near Geronimo.
