Glen Martin

August 19, 1949 — April 28, 2022

Glen R. Martin went to be with our Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the age of 72. He was born to Gladys Martin and Eugene Martin in Uvalde, Texas on August 19, 1949. In November of 1972, he married Susan Veselka. Although the two never had children of their own, they played a big part in raising their nephews, Michael and Eric and their great-niece, Shelbie. Glen especially loved his great-niece, Shelbie.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Susan Martin; his brother, Marvin Martin (Betty), his sister, Joyce McCauley; sister-in-law, Janet Carwile; nieces and nephews, Michael Carwile, Eric Carwile (Rebekah), great-niece, Shelbie Caddell (Travis), Stephen Martin, Mark Martin, Jonathan McCauley, Jordan McCauley, Joseph McCauley, Jullian Strohl, Robby Roberts, Tammy Roberts, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Glen was a member of First Baptist Church of New Braunfels and loved the Lord and his church. He also loved his country and proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he fought during the Korean DMZ conflict and held the rank of sergeant of the 3rd battalion, 23rd infantry.

Glen went on to become an electrician and worked for Gillette Electric, and then a maintenance engineer. He spent 40 years working in maintenance at San Antonio facilities, including Santa Rosa Hospital and the Baptist Health System. He ended his career as the maintenance supervisor at Normandy Terrace Nursing and Rehab, where he retired in 2016. Glen took pride in all that he did and always went above and beyond to ensure the residents were safe and the facilities ran smoothly.

Glen was a farmer to the core and loved every minute of it. He and Susie raised all sorts of cattle, hogs, chickens, and horses. They had numerous dogs and cats over the years, and he was especially fond of one cat in particular, Tango. He enjoyed working in the garden and giving away vegetables to coworkers, neighbors, and fellow church members. Glen had a green thumb and a knack for growing trees from seeds, something not many people have patience for. In his spare time, he also loved to make homemade bread from scratch and watch old John Wayne movies. Glen was truly a jack'-of-all-trades, as well as a loving husband, brother, and uncle.

A private family viewing will be held at Goetz Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held for friends and relatives at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209 on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 9:15am.
