Fernando “Fred” Fuentes Jr., 82 dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away at home in Houston, TX on October 22, 2022.

Fred was born to Fernando Fuentes Sr and Paulina Longoria in Seguin, TX on September 24, 1940. He graduated from Seguin High School in 1960. Following graduation, he joined the Air Force in 1962 and later attended Our Lady of the Lake University, where he earned a B.S. degree in Business.

He had a full career which included 33 years in the Air Force, based at Kelly Field as a Jet Engine Mechanic, he spent 6 years as an active-duty Airman and the remaining in the Air Force Reserve, he retired from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant.  In 1977, Fred relocated his family to Houston, TX where he began a career as a Housing Representative for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and retired at age 54 from HUD’s Regional office in Fort Worth, TX.

Fred met his beloved Tomasa at school in Seguin, TX, they were married in April 1963 and had two children, David and Marisa.

Fred enjoyed traveling, playing golf, watching football (Dallas Cowboys) and baseball (Houston Astros), spending time with family, and going to his grand children’s games and school performances.  Those who knew Fred knew he was a very loving and caring father, husband, grandfather and friend. He was always there to support and assist his family and friends when needed.  Fred was very proud to serve his country, winning AAA State Champs in Baseball his senior year of High School and being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Honor for Seguin ISD in September 2006.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; Fernando Sr. and Paulina Fuentes, his beloved wife, Tomasa V. Fuentes, his brother Marciano Fuentes, his sisters Ernestine F. Sherman, Teodora F. Vidaurri, and Mary F. Solis.  He is survived by his sister Odelia F. Hernandez, his son David Fuentes, daughter in-law Marcy Fuentes, his daughter Marisa Lopez, son In-law David Lopez. Grandchildren: Joann Alvarez-Vasquez (Ricky), Raul “Trey” Alvarez III, David “Andrew” Fuentes Jr, Gavin Lopez, Daniel Fuentes, Derek Fuentes, Kristin “Jada” Lopez and Jilene Lopez and great granddaughter, Mia Vasquez.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Goetz Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at San Geronimo Cemetery.
