Phyllis Evelyn Causey, 73, peacefully passed away at her daughter’s home in Seguin, TX on Saturday, February 5, 2022. She was born in Big Spring, TX on May 17, 1948 to the late Syon Beason Walker and Elsie Evelyn (Derby) Walker.
Phyllis was a Christian woman who had a love for the Lord that could not be shaken. Daily bible study and listening to the “good stuff” was her passion. She studied hard and was proud to have earned her GED. She was blessed to have bought and completely paid for her own home. Although she held several jobs before and many after, as a mother through the late 70’s Phyllis didn’t work outside of the home. Her generation was the last to see the time before both parents’ wages were needed to survive and she claimed it was the beginning of the downfall of the American family. Years later experts would agree! But she was able, for a while, to simply be a wonderful homemaker who made crockpot BBQ chicken every Sunday afternoon after church, countless school costumes at a moment’s notice, sitting all her family at the supper table each evening and always doing and making sure they had what they needed. She made the best homemade hot rolls and cinnamon rolls that no one could turn down and was a wealth of knowledge for nutrition and supplements. Phyllis was a waitress for a good part of her working life at the Kountry Kitchen in Sanderson, but not before hoeing peanuts with her mother and sisters for a few seasons in the fields of New Mexico. She was an Amway representative for a few years and established PEP Enterprises, a book and curio store with an arcade room that also served as Jay’s Cleaners drop off and pickup in 1989. Phyllis retired from Uncle’s store in Sanderson, TX, owned by her daughter Gennie, in 2008. However, she worked with her sister Winona for a short while after retirement at the Solo Cup factory in Oklahoma.
Phyllis loved her people with all she had and did her best to instill the realization of God’s love in all of them. If she could have had it her way, her offspring would have all lived together as one big happy family under her roof.
