Petra Gomez Sosa

Petra Gomez Sosa, born on April 29, 1940, in New Braunfels, Texas, was welcomed home by the Lord on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Petra passed at the age of 83, surrounded by her family, who she had taken such loving care of during her life. Petra lived her life, full of love for those around her and the things she did.

Petra was a very loving, smart, and sharp person, devoting so much of her time and self to those she loved, to the point she remembered every single date of importance. She loved to sing and dance while cleaning and doing housework in her home in Marion, and she had a great love for God. Petra was a very funny woman who loved to make everyone laugh, and she made the best bean and cheese tacos. When anyone needed life advice or help dealing with a situation, she was always there to help and give what she could.

Petra is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Andrea Gomez; daughter, Maria Guadalupe Sosa; grandsons, Refugio Sosa III and Jerry Sosa; siblings, Ciprano Gomez, Anastacio Gomez, Francisco Gomez, Roberto Gomez, Elisa Gonzalez, and Olivia Ramirez.

Petra is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Refugio Sosa Sr.; children, Alma Acuna (Raul), Janie Gomez, Refugio Sosa Jr. (Erlinda), and Delia Gonzalez (Sergio); 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is further survived by her siblings, Margarita Aguero (Atilano), Aurora Torres and Juana Hernandez (Salvador).

Visitation will be held at Goetz Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Santo Tomas Cemetery.  

Serving as pallbearers will be Jesse Sosa, Javier Morales Jr., Randy Sosa, Joshua Morales, Sergio Gonzalez Jr., and Dominick Acuna.
