Ottilia Winkelmann

Ottilia Reginia Margaret Meyer Winkelmann was born February 13, 1922 to Arthur & Adele Scheffel Meyer. She went to the Lord on November 26, 2016 at the age of 94 where she was greeted by her husband Vernon and many friends and family. She was baptized by Rev. E.F. Schuessler on April 1, 1922 and confirmed by Rev. L.J. Rode. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 28:20. Vernon and Ottilia were married on September 4, 1943 at Redeemer Evangelical Church, Zuehl, by Rev. E.H. Schwengel. They had 5 children Vernon Jr. (Jennifer), Kenneth (Kathy), Glenn (Wanda), Janice (Steve) Gangawer, Bernice (Robert)Cuellar. She has 7 grandsons David (Cynthia), Kenneth Jr., Todd (Debra), Jeremy (Kim), Joseph, Sean Griffin (Nicole) Chris predeceased, 6 granddaughters, Deanna Mendez(Ruben), Lori Thomas (John), Amanda Gangawer (James), Stephanie Permeter (Bo), Melissa Hamm, Regina Griffin. 11 Greatgrandchildren Brandon Parham, Jordan and Jared Mendez, Declan Winkelmann, Parker, Rylee, Tessa Thomas, Micah Winkelmann, Kaitlin Hamm, Kaley and Michael Winkelmann and special family members Jerry & Helen Wieters, Scott & Kyle. She is also survived by sisters Elizabeth Cogswell, Carolyn West, sister in-law Dorthy Meyer and brother Arthur(Mildred) Meyer and predeceased by Vernon Sr., parents and brother Arno Meyer and sister Adeline Heider. "Miss Tillie" as known by everyone in the Zuehl Community taught Sunday school at Redeemer Evangelical Church for 68 years and was commended by Gov. Rick Perry for her service to the church and children. She was a member of Bexar Grange held office of lecture for 6 years, Bexar Home Demonstration and served as president, was active in the Guadalupe County 4-H program for over 30 years and was awarded Outstanding Leader, Board member of the Guadalupe County Youth Show and founding member of the Homemaking Division in 1964.
Tillie had a garden every year canning and pickling the bounties to feed their large family and sharing with neighbors. Her coffee cakes and pickles were sought after at Charity auctions bringing top prices. She loved to cook and bake and always had enough food in the house to feed visitors, no matter how many. She baked all the Groom's cakes for children and grandchildren's weddings. Sewing bridesmaid dresses kept her busy for many years. She bought her first sewing machine from the money she earned working for a Captain, his wife, and daughter at Randolph AFB for 3 years when she was 18 years old. She sewed all the clothes for the family as they grew up. Halloween costumes, confirmation dresses and a wedding dress were sewn by her with great pride. "Oma" babysat her grandchildren and many other children, which became part of her family and she dearly loved them all. Most of all she loved God and wanted to share the Good News with all children so they would know our God loved them and was always with them.
Visitation will be Thursday December 1, 2016 at Goetz Funeral Home, Seguin from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. Services will be held December 2, 2016, 10:30 at Redeemer United Church of Christ, Zuehl with Rev. Lee Zillmann officiating. The family request donations to Redeemer United Church of Christ or charity of your choice.
