The passing is mourned of Mary Margaret Brownfield, age 69, in Seguin, Texas on Feb. 18, 2026 after a long illness.
Mary was born on Dec. 21, 1956. She attended the art history program at the University of Houston and was employed at galleries on Madison Ave. in NYC, and on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, NM. She next attained a BSN and was in several honorary sororities and professional organizations. She was an ICU nurse in New Mexico and Arizona, and a traveling nurse in the US, for nearly 20 years. She also contracted with the US Army as a civilian nurse in Germany.
Mary traveled extensively in the US, Europe and the UK. She particularly loved the city of Paris, France and was there often. She enjoyed visiting significant spiritual and religious sites: from Santuaro de Chimayó, NM (pre-development) to Notre Dame, Lourdes, Mont Saint-Michel and many more.
Mary was compassionate, adventurous, a true friend, and a remarkable woman. She was an accomplished seamstress, including clothing and needlework, and was a craft enthusiast creating handmade paper and books, jewelry and decor. She collected distinctive furniture in the US and Europe, and Native American jewelry and artifacts. She volunteered for and contributed to Habitat for Humanity.
Mary is survived by her father, Earl Foster Brownfield, Jr., sister B. Jo Brownfield, and brother Steven W. Brownfield. She is predeceased by her mother, V. Carolyn Brownfield; and grandparents Earl F. and Margaret Brownfield, and Jack and Mina Schroeder. Grateful thanks are given to Catherine Hill of Bluebonnet Services, and to staff at Guadalupe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center - both in Seguin, Texas - for their profound kindness and assistance.
There will be no memorial service. Mary’s friends and loved ones are spread across the United States, Europe, and the UK. Location for interment of cremains is to be determined.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Habitat for Humanity, the Wounded Warrior Project, and Doctors Without Borders.
