Marilyn Lyles

Joyce was born to Theodore and Thelma Lorenz on March 24, 1934 in Waco, Texas. Joyce grew up in the Waco area and graduated from Midway High School in 1952. She married Ruel "Eric" Owen Erwin, Jr. on October 10, 1953 in Waco, Texas. Ruel and Joyce had two children, Eric and Elise. After Ruel took a job as a high school coach, he and Joyce moved to Geronimo, Texas in 1971. Shortly after their arrival, Ruel was tragically killed in August 1971. Several years later Joyce married James "Lindy" Lindon Lyles on January 17, 1974. Joyce and Lindy had one son, James "Jay" Lindon Lyles, Jr. Lindy passed away in May 1999. After Lindy's death, Joyce continued to live in the Geronimo area until 2004 when she moved back to Waco. She was a longtime member of Friedens United Church of Christ.
Joyce will always be remembered for her love of sports and competition. She was a fierce competitor on and off the court. Throughout her life, Joyce was an avid sports fan, and she, especially, loved the Texas Longhorns. Family and friends will always remember Joyce's stylish windsuits and matching reebok tennis shoes. Her burnt orange windsuit was by far her favorite.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Thelma Lorenz, her husbands, Ruel Erwin and Lindy Lyles, and two sisters Jaqueline Lorenz McClinton and Olivia "Libby" Lorenz. She is survived by her three children, Eric Erwin and wife Carla of Wellman, Texas, her daughter Elise Golden and husband Bill of Lucas, Texas, and her son, Jay Lyles and wife Bobbie of Satin Texas. She is also survived by one brother, Ted Lorenz and wife Sandra of Covington, Louisiana, two sisters, Theo Pilot and husband Alan of Waco, Texas and Alta Powers and husband Benny of Valley Mills, Texas, five grandchildren, Kelli, Keri, Kati, Mason, and Cory, six great grandchildren, Zaccary, Kateleigh, Delaney, Addison, Ian, and Keller, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Joyce will be Monday evening, September 12, 2016 from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M at Goetz Funeral Home in Seguin, Texas. A graveside service will be held at the Geronimo Lone Oak Cemetery on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 10:30A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association .
