Juanita Carillo

November 24, 1934 — April 1, 2017

Juanita (Janie) Gonzales Carrillo passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Juanita was born in Gonzales County, Texas, 82 years ago. As a child, she and her family moved to Seguin. Juanita was the second child and oldest daughter of Francisco and Gregoria Gonzales. She helped her parents raise most of her 14 siblings. Juanita's first jobs included being a farm worker, a domestic worker for a military family, and a civilian food service worker at Randolph Air Force Base. In her mid 20's, she met and married the love of her life Jose G. Carrillo and started a family. Shortly thereafter, she began working as a cook at Dairy Queen where she worked for over 20 years. She then worked for Seguin ISD in food services for over 10 years until she retired.
Juanita enjoyed spending time with her family, volunteering at her church, and loved helping others. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, was a member of the Guadalupanas, Cursillistas and the RCIA program. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and making cascarones (confetti eggs) for Easter. Juanita will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Juanita is survived by Jose G. Carrillo Sr, her beloved husband to whom she was married for 54 years; by her daughters: Grace (Stephen) Dormier, and Kathy Carrillo (Louis Fernandez); by her son: Jose Jr. (Hyon) Carrillo; and by Baldemar Guerrero, whom she loved as a son; other survivors include: grandsons: Jarred Sanchez and Jorel Sanchez; great grandchildren: Vincent Sanchez, Linda Sanchez, and Olivia Sanchez; sisters: Ramona Chapa, Gregoria (Arthur) Ramos; brothers: Rafael (Celestina) Gonzales, Frank Jr. (Nena) Gonzales, Jose (Diamantina) Gonzales, Jesus (Lourdes) Gonzales, Guadalupe (Alice) Gonzales, Miguel (Virginia) Gonzales, Pedro (Josie) Gonzales; sisters-in-law: Linda Casas, Jacinta Gonzales, and Elisa Gonzales; and by an abundance of nieces and nephews. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents Francisco Sr. and Gregoria Gonzales; by her sisters: Alvina Gonzales and Rosa (Juan) Contreras; by her brothers: Lorenzo Gonzales, Antonio Gonzales, and Victor Gonzales; and brother-in law, Guadalupe Chapa.
The family wishes to thank Julie Young for providing personal care services, the staff at Windsor Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, the hospice nurses at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, and relatives who cared for her during the final months of her life.
A visitation will begin on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 9:00pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm at Goetz Funeral Home. A funeral procession will depart on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Arrangements are entrusted to Goetz Funeral Home, Seguin, Texas.
