Janie Owen

Janie Lee Ploetz Owens age 84 of Galle, Texas passed away February 23, 2017. She was born August 26, 1932 in Galle, Texas, daughter of Thula and John Ploetz.

Janie graduated from Seguin High School in 1949. She graduated from Southwest Texas Teachers College (now Texas State University) with a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1953 and continued with her higher education, earning a Master's Degree from the same university.

She became a teacher and spent most of the 38 years of her career teaching at Navarro ISD in Geronimo, Texas. She was very passionate about teaching as most of her students will attest to this day. Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters and great- grandchildren.

Janie was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Lucille and Gladys, brothers Martin, John (Truman), and Curtis, and brother-in-law Sandy (N.W.) and Roy.

She is survived by her son, Gary; daughter, Jackie and daughter-in-law Diane; granddaughters, Brandi and Samantha; great grandchildren, Nathan, Benjamin, Penny, Elora, Jaxon and James and numerous nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 28, 2017 from 4-8 pm at Goetz Funeral Home, 713 N. Austin St., Seguin, Texas. The funeral and burial service will both be held Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at Lone Oak Cemetery in Geronimo, Texas on Barbarosa Rd. and Friedens Church Road in Geronimo, Texas with a Celebration of Life luncheon with friends and family directly after the burial service.
