James Robert Sureddin

James Robert Sureddin, 83, passed away September 18, 2026 at home in New Braunfels, Texas.

Jim was born in San Antonio, Texas to John Daniel and Fern Julia Mann Sureddin on November 19, 1942. Upon graduation from Central Catholic High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1960 and served on the USS Saufley as a Torpedo Mate 3rd Class (TM3). The Cuban Missile Crisis was a prominent event during his service. After the military, he joined Burroughs/Unisys, becoming proficient at repairing computer systems for banks, before retiring after 34 years. Jim was a genuine fix-anything man – he was intuitive about how moving parts fit together and was determined to tinker until it worked perfectly.

With a knack for genealogy, he enjoyed tracing his family’s history all the way back to the Czech Republic. The hobby that Jim loved most, though, was working on his farm in Wilson County. Along with installing barb wire fence around the property by himself, Jim also rebuilt an old cabin with running water and electricity as a place for the family to enjoy the country for a few hours or overnight.

Jim delighted in sitting around the table and playing cards or dominos with family and friends. Farkle also became a favorite game but Jim insisted on calling it Sparkle!

A wonderful father, Jim was gentle and loving but unafraid to correct small misbehaviors. Music usually brought a smile and a sense of peace, especially Angel of the Morning by Juice Newton, On the Road Again by Willie Nelson or any song by Johnny Cash.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother Fern Mann Sureddin, his father John D Sureddin Sr, his brother Kenneth Lee Sureddin and wife Mary and his brother John D ”Sandy” Sureddin Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife Donna Ewald Sureddin; daughter Pamela and husband Mark; son Paul and wife Silvie; daughter Peggy and husband Gary; stepsons Terry and David; sister-in-law Betty; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Goetz Funeral Home from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
