Jack Herbert Gillespie peacefully passed away on December 14, 2025, in Seguin, Texas. He was born on January 2, 1932, in Kilgore, Texas to Bothic and Emma (Henderson) Gillespie.
Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a commitment that showed his character and values throughout his life. Jack was a devoted family man, having been married to his beloved wife, Angelita Vega Gillespie, for an incredible 50 years. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Bothic and Emma Gillespie; sisters, Mary Helen Gillespie and Crystal Martin and her husband J.D. Martin, as well as his brother Harry Clem Gillespie.
Jack is survived by his wife, Angelita Gillespie, daughter, Jackie Volyn Roberts, and grandsons, Bryan Curtis and Nicholas Curtis. Jack is further survived by many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants of Guadalupe Regional Medical Center that had a hand in caring for Jack and making him comfortable. Special thanks to his provider from Lackland, Rito Sauceda, for many years of care and compassion; Avir Nursing Home, for making Jack feel right at home, and Heart to Heart Hospice for the compassionate care during Jack’s final days.
Services honoring Jack will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Goetz Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with the Funeral Service following at 11:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery under Committal Shelter #5 at 1:45 p.m.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Robert Thomas Emerson, Melvin Walker, Nicholas Curtis, Frank Adam Ortiz, Landon Herald, and Frank Vasquez.
Jack Herbert Gillespie will be remembered not only for his military service and devotion to family but also for the love he radiated in every aspect of his life. His legacy will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
