Elizabeth “Betty” Blum of Seguin, TX passed away on January 10, 2026. She was born in Boston, MA in 1933 to Gerald and Gladys Smith of Harwichport, MA.
Betty was a proud Cape Codder, raised in Harwichport where her parents were the proprietors of the Melrose Inn. Betty enjoyed playing basketball, riding her horse Bayberry and taking ballet lessons.
Betty was vibrant, vivacious and one of a kind. She lived the way she wanted and was never afraid to speak her mind. She loved the beach, gardening, crosswords, cooking for family and friends, playing bridge, traveling the globe, geisha doll making and teaching conversational English to her friends in Japan.
Betty was predeceased by Leo, her husband of 69 years, her brother Philip Smith and her sister Jane Lynch. Over the years, Betty and Leo lived in Acton, Massachusetts; Tokyo, Japan; Anchorage, Alaska; and Falmouth, Massachusetts. The last two years she lived in Seguin, TX with her grandson Peter and his family.
She will be lovingly remembered as Mom, Nanan, and Lulu. Betty leaves her daughters Deborah Blum, Betty-Sue Blum (Joel Carlisle), and son Buck Blum (Beth). She also leaves grandchildren Peter Blum (Diana), Andrew Blum (Courtney) and Catherine (fiancé Stephen MacLaren) and great granddaughters Akane Blum and Marley Blum, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
