Our Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Tio, took his last earthly breath at approximately 2:20 A.M., April 12, 2026, at the age of 99. His daughters, Dora Alicia Castilleja and Dora Annette Nieto were at his side when he passed, he was not alone.
He was born in Seguin, Texas on December 22, 1926 to Jesus Ramos and Marcelina Leyvas Ramos.
Our patriarch was proud to have served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Italy guarding prisoners during the last year of WWII. Although he enjoyed his time in the Army and considered re-enlisting, he returned to Seguin to support and serve his family. Upon his return, he worked at Structural Metals Inc. (SMI) and retired after working there for more than 39 years, a dedicated, loyal employee. A practicing catholic, he was a life-long member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and an active member of the Holy Name Society. A proud veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post 245 of Seguin, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8315 of Schertz and a member of the American GI Forum of Seguin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 54 years: Ninfa Salazar Ramos, his sons: Raul “Tusa” S. Ramos, Sr. and Demetrio S. Ramos Jr., his grandson: Jose “JoJo” Louis Nieto Jr., his brothers: Lupe Ramos, Jose Ramos and Reynol Ramos, his sisters: Conception “Chonita” Garza, Aurora “Gola” Lomas, Naomi “Mimi” Flores and Marcelina “Chela” Rodriguez, and his nephews: Demetrio Lomas, Mario Flores, and Jaime Ramos.
Survivors are daughters: Dora Alicia Castilleja (Lalo) and Dora Annette Nieto, son: Rene S. Ramos (Sylvia). His Grand Children: Raul Ramos Jr., Bobbie Jo Ramos, Shantea Jurado, Jennifer Castilleja, Lalo Castilleja III, Noami Castilleja, Rachael Renee Guevara, Matthew Nieto, Traylyn R. Bush, and Nora A. Ramos-Bernheimer. Great Grand Children: Ryan Ramos, Gabriel Ramos, Ariana Ramos, Lalo Castilleja IV, Chazity Sepeda, Tarren Nieto, Summer Flores, Jozannah Nieto, Jose “Little JoJo” Nieto, Trinity Castilleja, Madison Webster, Desiree Castilleja, Destinee Amaya, Joshua Nieto (Deceased), Julian Castilleja, Damien Castilleja, Marisa Luna, Nathaniel Jurado, Jeremiah Jurado, Aliyah Jurado, Rebecca L. Ramos-Bush, Zachary R. Bush, Gabrielle R. Bush. Great Great Grand Children: Waylon Ramos, Cora Ramos, Gabriel Ryan Ramos, Dominic Ramos, Lalo Castilleja V, Levi Castilleja and Rea Castilleja.
Pallbearers: Traylyn R. Bush, Rachael Renee Guevara, Matthew Nieto, Raul Ramos Jr., Jennifer Castilleja, Noami Castilleja, Rebecca L. Ramos-Bush and Zachary R. Bush.
With his death, an entire generation of the Ramos family ends. There is no one left to tell us first hand stories of the successes and struggles of our grandparents, uncles and aunts. We, first cousins must keep their stories alive as best we can.
The lessons our Dad taught us about family, proudly serving in the armed forces, and making an honest living by working hard to earn our pay will never be forgotten.
