Debra Harborth Mathis

August 16, 1951 — March 20, 2026

Canyon Lake, Texas

Debra Harborth Mathis passed away on March 20, 2026. Born on August 16, 1951, in Seguin, Texas, she was the daughter of Herschel and Colleen Harborth. Debra spent her childhood in Houston and graduated from Spring Branch High School. She later attended Stephen F. Austin University before marrying and welcoming two children, embracing her years as a devoted mother and homemaker in Cypress, Texas. She cherished time with her children, friends, and extended family, creating a warm and welcoming home.

As life carried her forward, Debra married Mark Mathis in 1990. Together they embarked on new adventures, living in Villahermosa, Mexico, and Venezuela. Debra thrived in these vibrant communities, forming lasting friendships and serving as president of an expat international ladies club in Villahermosa. She loved bringing women together to explore the culture, customs, and cuisine of the region.

Debra’s curiosity and love of learning continued throughout her life. She delighted in discovering new cultures, collecting treasures from her travels, and gathering inspiration for the home she and Mark built in Canyon Lake, Texas. She was happiest when she was gardening, reading about women in Texas History, or cooking recipes from the many she collected. She especially enjoyed talking and laughing with friends and family who visited the lake house.

Debra was loved deeply and respected by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Wesley Berry. She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Mathis; her son, Scott Sauve; her daughter, Sarah Burnside, and husband, Dennis Burnside; and her grandchildren, Averie Sauve and Bennett Burnside. She is also survived by her sisters, Pamela Berry and Scheral Briggs, and husband, Gary, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many beloved friends.
