Carol Johnson

November 12, 1939 — October 7, 2017

Carol Pegg Johnson , 77, passed away on Saturday, October 7, in San Antonio, Texas, as a result of injuries sustained in a major automobile accident. She was born on November 12, 1939, in San Antonio to Merl and Frances (Rumpf) Pegg.

Carol attended Dowdy School in Darst Creek, graduated from Seguin High School, earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Degree from Southwest Texas State College (now Texas State University), and pursued graduate studies at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Carol applied her informal as well as her formal education to teaching at schools in La Vernia, Texas, and Rapid City, South Dakota, and at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska. While attending Southwest Texas, she met and married the love of her life, Harvey L. Johnson. Together they were the parents of two children, Brian and Jennifer.

Immediately following his graduation, Harvey entered the United States Air Force, and Carol spent the next almost 30 years as a military wife. Her influence and impact on other spouses was tremendous. The Air Force got double for its money as Carol and Harvey served as a team. She was an active volunteer in base, community, local church, and chapel services and activities. Being the big sister of two younger siblings prepared her the roles of overseer she would assume in adult life. Many young, and often older, wives looked to her for advice and counsel, and she lovingly served as a surrogate mother and sister for them. Her love for the Air Force family was exceeded only by her love for her Savior and her family. Moving frequently posed challenges, but Carol always managed to make each house a home for Brian, Jennifer, and their friends. She enjoyed gardening and was proud of having earned the distinction of Master Gardener.

Carol was preceded in death by her son, Brian; her parents, Merl and Frances Pegg; her parents-in-law, Harvey H. And Martha Lou Johnson; her sister, Elizabeth Obelgoner; and her sister-in-law, La Dean Buchanan.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harvey, Live Oak; her daughter, Jennifer (Keith) Dastur, Cascade, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Lisa Johnson, Arlington; granddaughter, Abigail Dastur, College Station; grandsons, Grant Dastur, Galveston, and Logan and Connor Johnson, Arlington; sister, Merle (John) Chott, Troy, Montana; brother-in-law, John Buchanan, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Friday, October 13, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Goetz Funeral Home, 713 North Austin, Seguin. Graveside services will be Saturday, October 14, 10:00 a.m., San Geronimo Cemetery, 1620 East Walnut, Seguin.

Since Carol was the recipient of organ transplants which extended her life for many years, the family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the University Health Center Foundation Transplant Center Fund, www.universityhealthsystem.com/support-our-mission/ways-to-give.
