Donald (Pete) Keith Dodgen, of Seguin, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the age of 91. A gathering and visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Goetz Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Goetz Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marcus Bigott officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in the Blanco Cemetery in Blanco Texas with Rev. Dr. John Schwartz Jr presiding. Pete, as he was known, was born on July 16, 1927 in Round Mountain, Texas to Frank and Elitha (Shelley) Dodgen.
Little Keithy, (since he was the baby boy) as his mom called him, was born at home. He always said that he was born at 2:30 a.m. in the morning and by 5:30 a.m. he was down milking a cow or chopping wood. He prided himself on hard work, never meeting a stranger, a big bright smile, talking to whomever he met, helping, and providing for his family. He was always jovial and happy, loving on his family, and saying he was a better man after marrying Irene! Pete proudly served in the Army towards the end of WW II, as did all his brothers. His body may have been getting old but his mind told him he could do it and he tried and often succeeded. He lived his life in such a way that if there was a will there was a way which enabled him to live in his home until his death. Many would say he was a hard-headed stubborn man, but he really just wanted to be independent and have his family around!
His parents preceded him in death, as did his wife of 37 years, Irene Bell Dodgen, and all of his 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Survivors include his 5 children, Sally Schwartz and husband John Schwartz, Lockett Nelson and wife Letha, Mark Nelson and wife Vickie, Donna Dodgen, and Les Dodgen; 9 grandchildren that he adored and told without hesitation that "you know I love you", 16 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Nelson, Patrick Conlin, Michael Nelson, Phillip Dodgen, Tom Dodgen, Mike Shoebroek, and James Deatherage.
